Announcing a recent addition to the e-resource collection of the USF Libraries—Business Source Premier, an EBSCOHost database.
Business Source Premier is one of the definitive scholarly databases in the field of business due to its depth and coverage. The database provides full text articles from more than 2,300 journals, including over 1,100 peer reviewed journals, and indexing for an additional 1,000 titles. Full text coverage dates vary, but some go back to the first issue of the journal. Full text articles from the Harvard Business Review date back to 1922. Business Source Premier also provides full text access to non-journal content. Content with the number of items within that category includes: case studies (166), books (139), market research reports (426), industry reports (5095), country reports (1409), company profiles (10,051) and SWOT analyses (2842). Global Monitor, Datamonitor, Countrywatch, and EIU are the source of this content. Business Source Premier also provides full text for more for more than 50 regional business publications, including titles from Crain Communications.
As one of the EBSCOHost databases acquired by the USF Libraries, Business Source Premier is available to impaired users requiring screen-readers or using keyboard controls.

The USF Libraries have recently purchased access to Mintel Oxygen, a database that focuses on marketing research.
Mintel Oxygen is one of the leading marketing research databases being utilized by 120 of the top U.S. universities. It has become one of the best resources for timely and unique information about the business to consumer (b2c) marketplace. The academic version of Mintel Reports branded as Mintel Oxygen provides comprehensive coverage of the U.S. and European markets from consumer behavior to SWOT and brand share analysis. Academic users can access 400 new reports each year that on average number one hundred pages. Analysis combines consumer habits and attitudes within the competitive landscape. A five-year forecast shows how businesses anticipate and plan for the future. The database includes a wide range of consumer market reports as well as daily news articles on corporate, product and advertising activity. The market reports analyze market sizes and trends, market segmentation, and consumer attitudes and purchasing habits. Features of Mintel Oxygen include “What’s Hot” focusing on market issues as they happen, tools to make graphs from any report, company profiles, searchable daily news digest and powerful personalization features. As a primary tool for researchers in marketing, Mintel Oxygen will also support the researcher in entrepreneurship, finance, advertising, journalism, communications, consumer psychology, and economics.
Each time the resource is accessed one must agree to the terms of use. First time users must create a profile. It is requested that a USF email address be used in the creation of this profile.

The USF Libraries have acquired the multidisciplinary database SourceOECD.
SourceOECD is an online library of statistical databases, books, and periodicals from OECD, the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development. The OECD, a membership of 30 countries, is one of the world’s largest publishers in the fields of economics and public policy. SourceOECD is comprised of over 1,800 online books with unrestricted access grouped in 24 themes, 24 periodicals, 3 reference titles, and 26 OECD statistical databases, all in full text. Themed groupings include: Education, Energy, Emerging Economies, Environment & Sustainable Development, Finance and Investment, Science, Social Issues, Urban and Regional Development, Transportation and more. Twenty-six statistical databases from the OECD are presented enabling users to download data and build their own tables, in real time. Users can also build cross-database tables. OECD has recently launched OECD.Stat that allows searches across the various OECD databases. It is now in a beta test until September 2008. The USF Libraries hold a subscription to all OECD online publications with the exception of the third-party IEA Statistics.
To access it, search MetaLib by using the “Search the Databases” link on the library’s main page.

Business students and faculty will find the DataStream Advance database from Thomson on computer 1115-42 in the Group Study area of the Library.
Because of licensing conditions and the necessity for client software installation, this database is not available through MetaLib. The USF Lakeland has one seat for access. Because of this, priority for computer 1115-42 will be given to those wishing to use the database.
Here is a bit more information about the database:
Thomson Datastream is the most respected historical financial numerical database, covering an unparalleled breadth of financial instruments, equity and fixed-income securities and indicators for over 175 countries and 60 markets worldwide.

The data from the 2006 Journal Citation Reports is now available in the ISI Web of Knowledge database. This data gives information on how many times a journal was cited, how many it has cited other journals and it’s impact factor, among others.
This kind of information is interesting when you are choosing a journal to submit an article, or when you are collecting additional information for a tenure and/or promotion dossier.
You can access the Journal Citation Reports in the Web of Knowledge database. Go to MetaLib, search the database by name and click on the resulting link. In the database itself, at the very top, you will see a drop-down menu. You will see the option for the Reports. If you are from off campus, don’t forget to log into the network first.

Faculty members, remember that you have access to rare and important primary sources from around the world with the Center for Research Libraries. From an email from Larry Heilos, Associate Director of the Tampa Library:
Center for Research Libraries (CRL) just recently announced the list of major microform collections that will be purchased through CRL’s FY2007 Purchase Proposal Program. We’re happy to report that several of USF Library’s priority picks were among the collections selected for purchase, including the two Incunabula titles, Guatemala News and Information Bureau Archive, and Bernard Shaw papers.
One of the perks of USF Libraries’ CRL membership is participation in the Center’s annual purchase program. Each year, CRL’s membership, comprising more than 100 of the nation’s premier research libraries, nominate for consideration and then vote for those titles they want the Center to purchase from its budget for major microform collections. Titles garnering the most votes are purchased by the Center for its permanent collection and made available to the membership on-site and through interlibrary loan (…)
(Tampa Library’s) Access Services Associate Director, Merilyn Burke, can assist you in acquiring these or any of CRL’s other microform resources for your research through interlibrary loan. Unlike most items borrowed through ILL, which must be returned to the lending institution in a set period generally lasting around than two weeks, materials borrowed from CRL can be retained for six months or more, with virtually unlimited renewals for as long as the materials are needed.
Merilyn can be reached at 974-4561, or by email at mburke@lib.usf.edu.
Logon to CRL’s website, which includes access to their online catalog, at http://www.crl.edu.
The list with a full description of the new collections can be found at http://www.crl.edu/PDF/pp07purchases.pdf.
