The University of South Florida Polytechnic is currently advertising the following position:
Social Sciences and Education Librarian (Open Rank)
Faculty rank, non-tenure earning
Full time, 12-month contract
Duties:
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with some of the programs in the College of Human and Social Sciences (Counselor Education, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Early Childhood Development, Educational Leadership, Elementary Education, Gerontology/Aging Studies, Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, Psychology, Reading Education, Sociology); designing and presenting instructional sessions; developing the library’s collection of discipline-related materials; providing research assistance to students, faculty, and staff. Contributing to state, regional, and national committees; participating in research, publication, and other professional and scholarly activities; participating in library, campus and/or University committees/councils as appropriate. Some evening and weekend duties are required.
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in library science and appropriate experience as a professional librarian consistent with university guidelines.A distinguished record of service in the profession including publications, professional association activity, research, or other major contributions to the field.Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Librarian. Qualified for appointment at instructor, assistant librarian or associate librarian level according to USF Polytechnic standards; established record of published research and scholarly activities at the advanced Associate Librarian level, or emerging published research or participation in research and scholarly activities with potential for publication at the Assistant Librarian level. Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills; flexibility and a strong service orientation.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Academic degree from, or experience working at, a polytechnic university; significant experience using resources in social sciences, education and curriculum; 1-3 years of work experience in academic libraries, particularly in instruction, reference, and collection development; experience or a strong potential for a continuous commitment to current emerging web technologies and diverse instructional technologies in a variety of settings (e.g., face-to-face, online asynchronous, online synchronous). Clear understanding of the library’s ongoing role in supporting and shaping the Polytechnic’s teaching, learning, and research mission.

Join us on the LTB patio to listen to passages from banned and challenged books, as part of the USFP Library celebration of Banned Books Week.
Readings will be from 11:15AM to 1PM and 4:15PM to 6PM (yes, we sneaked in a couple more readers). Among the banned/challenged authors this year: Mark Twain, Toni Morrison, Judy Blume, Stephenie Meyer, D.H. Lawrence, Harper Lee and Polk County’s own Craig McKee.

Starting today, Friday July 24th, the Help Desk will now be located in LAC 1275. ERDC will still maintain an employee in the Open Use Lab for the students’ computing needs.

The USF Polytechnic Library is very proud to be included in the 2008 USF Polytechnic Diversity Honor Roll. The USFP Diversity Office so recognized our efforts to publish library resources lists for commemorative events such as Black History Month (see the most current list at http://catherin.blog.usf.edu/2009-black-history-month-library-resources/), Hispanic Heritage Month and Pride Week.

Associate Librarian Catherine Lavallée-Welch is back from attending the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Orlando. EDUCAUSE is a professional association focusing on technology in higher education.
Lavallée-Welch attended a pre-conference seminar on Learning Commons. She also presented with USF Poly colleagues Dr Naomi Boyer, Kevin Calkins and Karen Konrath a session entitled Sustainable Faculty Technology Development to Facilitate a New University Culture.

We had a great turnout at the Read Aloud event yesterday for Banned Books Week. We still have handouts left at the library if you missed your chance to get one.
