Due to work on the building A/C system, we have to open the door in the server room in the back of the Library, in the Group Study area. There is a fair amount of fan noise as a consequence.

The USF Poly Library and the Open Use Lab will be closed on Thursday, November 11th, in observance of Veterans’ Day.

Business Librarian Lisa Zilinski will become one of two Directors of the Florida and Caribbean Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) this coming January. This position on the Executive Board of the Chapter is for a period of two years.
SLA is an international professional association grouping information professionals and librarians from the corporate, government, not-for-profit and academic fields.

The computers in the Library and Open Use Lab are currently being replaced by newer, faster models. We have already received new, bigger monitors. Not all of the machines are available yet. This includes the public access computer and the micro-form reader/scanner.
Please excuse the noise and the inconvenience. We think it will be worth it!

The C-SPAN Video Library is the free video archives of the network of the same name.
The C-SPAN Archives records, indexes, and archives all C-SPAN programming for historical, educational, research, and archival uses. Every C-SPAN program aired since 1987, now totaling over 160,000 hours, is contained in the C-SPAN Archives and immediately accessible through the database and electronic archival systems developed and maintained by the C-SPAN Archives.
The Archives records all three C-SPAN networks seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Programs are extensively indexed making the database of C-SPAN programming an unparalleled chronological resource. Programs are indexed by subject, speaker names, titles, affiliations, sponsors, committees, categories, formats, policy groups, keywords, and location. The congressional sessions and committee hearings are indexed by person with full-text. The video collection can be searched through the online Video Library.
Program searches are possible by topic, series, congressional committee or organization, person, location, most recent or most popular.
Aimed at educators, Teacher’s Domain is a website that serves as a repository for free materials, including media from NOVA, Frontline, American Experience and other public broadcasting content. Included as well are multimedia content, lesson plans, student activities, and interactives, correlated to state and national standards. There are several editions: K-12 (which has the most content), College, New York, Kentucky and Massachusetts.
Free registration gives access to more functions and personalizations.

On par with the rest of the USF system, SGA and Student Affairs organized a full week of events for Homecoming. Among the events was an office decorating contest with the theme “Leaving a Legacy”. The Library was declared the happy winner of the contest! We used items from the library collections to illustrate the theme and a whole lot of school spirit!

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (or OECD) just released a new interface for their growing information platform.
The OECD iLibrary, the new platform giving seamless and comprehensive access to statistical data, books, journals and working papers, is now available. It replaces SourceOECD and hosts all content equally so users can find — and cite — tables and databases as easily as articles or chapters. The citation tool for datasets and tables is new and unique to the OECD iLibrary.
OECD iLibrary contains all the publications and datasets released by OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), International Energy Agency (IEA), Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), OECD Development Centre, PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), and International Transport Forum (ITF) since 1998 — some 390 complete databases, 2.500 working papers, 5.500 books, 14.000 tables and graphs, 21.000 chapters and articles.
OECD iLibrary has the following new features:
- Intuitive navigation by country or theme.
- Granular content – users can search and click directly to tables, chapters or articles.
- Integrated search results, showing all available file formats (PDF, HTML, XLS).
- A citation tool for all content, compatible with popular bibliographic management systems.
- Content in context – related content is one click away.
- Links to previous editions, with the option to download any full-text item such as tables or chapters from the table of contents.
- Every content level has a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and fixed URL.
- Users can navigate back and forth via hierarchical “breadcrumb trails”.
- Executive summaries available for key titles in up to 20 languages.
- Data available as ready-made, downloadable tables, or, for experienced users, in databases for users to build and extract their own tables.
- OECD.Stat is fully integrated, offering multiple export formats (including SDMX) explanatory metadata and links to related publications.
- 44,000 home pages with Google friendly URLs.
