USF in Lakeland Library

Along with our catalog, MetaLib and SFX, our databases/fulltext tools, have also been updated by FCLA. Enhancements within these tools will be implemented to improve discovery and use of online resources.

Starting August 27th, the Library will have new hours of operation:

Monday – Thursday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

The Computer Open Use Lab will have the same hours. These changes are due to budget cuts mandated by the State of Florida.

The updating of the library system is now completed. Patron empowerment features in the catalog are available again (account viewing, holds and online renewal).

And check out the new catalog interface! It will now be easier to see the availability of materials and filter results by location, author, format or topic.

The library catalog, with its new look, will still be available, however library patrons will not have access to Renew Materials or Recall/Place Holds.

Ovid’s SilverPlatter will be down for maintenance from 9:00 PM, Saturday, August 11, 2007 to 2:00 AM, Sunday August 12, 2007 Eastern Daylight Time.

This will affect databases like Social Work Abstracts Plus, Childhood and Adolescence and Socialization and Education.

To promote literacy during the month of September, visitors can enter Florida State Parks for free by:

Presenting a library card
Presenting a library book
Donating a new or gently used book

Doesn’t reading a book, under a shady tree, sound just lovely?

Starting August 7th, it is possible for students to come at the Library/OUL to pick up their Fall semester textbooks ordered online through the Barnes & Noble Bookstore. This is for the students who chose the “Pick up in Lakeland” option while ordering.

Textbooks should be available 3 days after the order is made.

On Saturday, August 4, IEEE will perform planned upgrades to their systems. These upgrades require that IEEE Xplore will be offline from 9AM to midnight EDT. This affects the IEEE Electronic Library (IEL) to which we subscribe.

Here is our monthly list of new items. As always, new books from the circulating collection and the Children’s books collection are located in the “New Books” shelf in the Group Study room.
