New interface for Ovid

OvidSP, an upcoming release of a new precision search and discovery platform, will be live and accessible on Thursday, October 25, 2007. USF offers different databases through OVID like MEDLINE and PsychINFO.

Additions and enhancements include:

Support of free text, natural language searching
Simultaneous searching across all databases, journals, and books
Results ranked by relevancy. [...]

New APA rules about electronic resources citation style

The APA just released new rules about the citation of electronic documents with Digital Object Identifier (DOI) numbers. You can find details on the APA website at http://www.apastyle.org/elecmedia.html as well as on the University of Maryland University College Library’s website at http://www.umuc.edu/library/guides/apa.shtml#DOI.

But, students, before you apply these new rules, check with your instructor first.

New databases in FirstSearch

OCLC Online Computer Library Center has completed the integration of twelve databases (formerly part of the RLG Eureka service) into the OCLC FirstSearch service, available through MetaLib. The RLG Eureka databases now in FirstSearch include:

Anthropological Index, Royal Anthropological Institute
Anthropological Literature
Anthropology Plus
Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
Bibliography of the History of Art [...]

New resources at the USF Lakeland Library

Here are our new resources for the month of September. As always, new books from the circulating collection are located in the “New Books” shelf in the Group Study room. Reference books and journals are put immediately in their respective shelving. Journals are shelved in alphabetical order.

Metalib update

Some minor changes have been made to MetaLib: font issues with the “I” button and the Quick Search databases have been fixed. The “Locate” tab has been renamed as well; it now reads “Vendor”.
