Catherine Lavallée-Welch, Director of the University of South Florida Polytechnic Library, was voted chair-elect of the Academic Division of the Special Libraries Association (SLA). Her three year term starts in January.
Created in 2009, the Academic Division has more than 570 members. Lavallée-Welch has been serving as Chair of its Awards Committee for the past two years.
SLA is a nonprofit global organization for innovative information professionals and their strategic partners. SLA serves about 11,000 members in 75 countries in the information profession, including corporate, academic, and government information specialists.
Here are the latest arrivals for the month of November. As always, Polytechnic circulating books are located in the New Books shelves in the back of the room. Reference is shelved immediately in their proper stacks. FIPR materials are shelved immediately in their proper stacks (although there are no new titles this month.) The books from the circulating collections of both libraries can be requested using the interlibrary loan system.
To note, you will notice a section marked “FMHI de la Parte Library books”. The Tampa Library are moving the regular collections from this special library at the Florida Mental Health Institute to bring them over to the main library. The Polytechnic Library has started to receive those duplicate titles that were already owned by the main library. This means we’ll be adding hundreds of new titles in the coming months to our library, ranging a wide range of disciplines. Some titles will be recent and others will help fill our core collection needs.
The FMHI Library will remain open, with a small reference collection and the Institute’s excellent special collections on the premises.
