Note: the Poly Library shares its space with the ERDC HelpDesk. The HelpDesk is the unit managing the distribution point for the bookstore textbooks. Inquiries should be made to them directly; we do assist when possible but we do not have access to all the pertinent information.
Textbooks have started to come in. They typically arrive 3 days after you receive an email from the bookstore. The courier usually delivers them around 3PM to 4PM, Monday to Friday. You are welcome to call ahead at 863-667-7005 to know if your textbooks have arrived.
The Poly Library dropbox in the visitor parking lot will be closed from Friday December 19th at 4:00 PM to Monday December 29th in the morning when it will be reopened. With the exception of Saturday the 20th, the Library will be closed during that week as well.
Please take note that fines on overdue books do not accrue on the days the Library is closed – in this case, for the holiday break – but they do remain overdue

ProQuest Historical Newspapers-Black Newspapers provides full images and texts of the primary source material essential to the study of American history and African-American culture, history, politics, and the arts. Researchers can examine major movements from the Harlem Renaissance to Civil Rights, and explore everyday life as written in the Chicago Defender, The Baltimore Afro-American, New York Amsterdam News, Pittsburgh Courier, Los Angeles Sentinel, Atlanta Daily World, The Norfolk Journal and Guide, The Philadelphia Tribune, and Cleveland Call and Post. The Black Newspapers collection is cross-searchable with all other ProQuest Historical Newspapers-including The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times- allowing researchers to evaluate history from multiple points of view. Trial expires 12/23/08.

You can now search millions of photographs from the LIFE photo archive, stretching from the 1750s to today. Most were never published and are now available for the first time through the joint work of Life and Google. ALA Direct reviews this site with this summary, “The collection contains some of the most iconic images of the 20th century, including works from photojournalists Alfred Eisenstaedt, Margaret Bourke-White, Gordon Parks, and W. Eugene Smith.” The images are available through normal Google channels such as a Google Search or a Google Image Search, but are also available through the Life archive directly.
This archive is available on Google free for personal and research purposes, but copyright and ownership of all images remains with Time Inc. The photo archive includes the Zapruder film of the Kennedy assassination, images from the popular TV and Hollywood culture, famous personalities, and the entire works left to the collection from life photographers. Check out these amazing images for yourself.
Thank you to Susan Ariew of the Tampa Library for the news item.
The American Chemical Society just implemented a new version of outbound OpenURL linking to the full-text of their journals. Unfortunately, our full-text resolver, SFX, does not seem to be playing nice with it. A solution is being worked on.
In the meantime, if you are running across the problem…the good news is that on the error page that you will receive, there will be a link to “ACS Journals A-Z.” If you click on that link and select the title from the list, the content is there. We’ll try to keep you posted on the resolution of the problem.
UPDATE: a temporary solution has been found and access has been restored.
