New AnthroSource database in anthropolgy

The USF Libraries now subscribe to AnthroSource, a collection of journals and newsletters in Anthropology.

AnthroSource strives to unite anthropological content such as peer reviewed journals, newsletters, and bulletins, in one online resource. A collaboration of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) and the University of California Press, AnthroSource provides current issues for fifteen of the AAA’s most critical peer-reviewed publications, including American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly. It also serves as an electronic archive of all AAA journals. With USF’s subscriptions to JSTOR, there is continuous access from AnthroSource back to JSTOR for key AAA publications, including American Anthropologist. Registered users can take advantage of personalization options, such as saved searches and email alerts. Includes reference linking to ensure ease of use with the anthropological online resources.

For this database and other library resources visit http://www.lakeland.usf.edu/library/. Click on “Search the Databases” to begin.

Electronic resources down – UPDATE

***UPDATE***
All services are back online. Enjoy!

Most of the electronic resource tools available through the library are currently down. This includes the catalog, ALEPH, and the MetaLib and SFX tools to access the databases and e-journals.

It may be possible, if you are on campus, to access a database or an e-journal by typing the direct URL but please be advise that IP range recognition doesn’t always work in that situation.

This problem is state-wide and is being worked on at this moment.

Change in login information

When logging into the USF Libraries website from off-campus using your Library ID, the required log in information is changing. Effective Friday, November 2nd, 2007, library patrons will no longer be required to enter the last four digits of their social security number in addition to their library ID. Rather, the month and date of birth will be required (MMDD – 2 digit month and 2 digit date. For example, July 9th would need to be entered 0709.)

This change in login will also effect the renewal of books through MY ACCOUNT in the library catalog.

If your birthday default does not work, please try 1234 or contact the Lakeland Library circulation desk at 863-667-7817. Once logged in, you will be able to change this number if desired.

Discontinuation of Basic BIOSIS Database on OCLC FirstSearch

Access to the Basic BIOSIS database on the OCLC FirstSearch service will end on December 31, 2007. This change is due to Thomson Scientific’s plans to discontinue the Basic BIOSIS database. Basic BIOSIS indexes life sciences journals.

Users may wish to use other databases that index much of the same content as Basic BIOSIS. Related databases in the field, available through the USF Libraries, include:

  • Biological and Agricultural Index (indexes approximately 40% of the same content as Basic BIOSIS)
  • Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management (indexes approximately 57% of the same content as Basic BIOSIS)

Together, the Biological and Agricultural Index and Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management databases cover approximately 97% of the 395 journals indexed in Basic BIOSIS.
