Library closed on Labor Day

The USFP Library and the Open Use Lab will be closed on Monday, September 6th. The chat reference service, Ask a Librarian, will be closed on Sunday, September 5th and Monday, September 6th. Our electronic resources? Still available, 24/7, wherever you are :)

The Library will reopen on Tuesday, September 7th at 8:00AM.

Downtime scheduled: ScienceDirect and informaworld

Two of the Libraries’ databases will be down on Saturday, August 28th.

  • ScienceDirect will be down for maintenance from 7:30AM to 4:30PM. During this time, upgrades will be implemented to these systems as part of the launch of the new SciVerse platform by publisher Elsevier
  • informaworld will be down for maintenance from 2:00AM to 3:00AM. informaworld is the platform for publications from Taylor & Francis, Routledge and Psychology Press.

Longer loan period for undergrads

The loan period has been extended to 4 weeks for books from the circulating collection. It had been 3 weeks previously for undergraduate students.

The USF Libraries, including the Poly Library, has joined the Ask-A-Librarian reference network. This is a state-wide service regrouping academic and public libraries. You can easily start the chat by clicking on the icon on the Library’s front page.

Website of interest: Small Business Resource Center

The Florida Electronic Library is giving free access to all Florida residents to a new database : the Small Business Resource Center by Gale Cengage.

This comprehensive database covers all major areas of starting, operating and maintaining a business from financing, management, marketing, accounting, taxes and more.

You can search by business topics or types, and view sample business plans.

Don’t miss the vast array of other databases offered by the Florida Electronic Library, in business or in other fields.

Gulf Oil Spill Information Center

The USF Tampa Library has prepared an information page on the Gulf oil spill. This public website supports current research on the Deepwter Horizon oil spill, as well as present the beginnings of a more comprehensive collection of material & information for future research needs. It will emphasize research support via an archive/digital library of key peer-reviewed research and data, including governmental and NGO reports, academic articles, conference proceedings, USF materials, and maps & images. Collaboration with other universities is also in the works.

Federal Work-Study position available

A part-time position (10 hr/week) is now open at the USF Polytechnic Library.

Duties: assist the USF Polytechnic Library in providing services to its users (students, faculty, staff and community members). Duties include staffing the circulation desk, circulating books and other materials; answering and forwarding phone calls; answering directional questions and referring other requests for assistance to appropriate staff; and other clerical duties as needed. This position requires strict adherence to procedures overseeing confidentiality of library users’ records. Prefer USFP student.

Schedule: weekday afternoons, to be determined

Salary: $8/hr

InterLibrary Loan to Use NetID Log In

What will happen on August 4th?

ILLIAD/ILL will be shut down on August 4th for its conversion to the USF IT Central Authentication System. USF affiliated patrons will no longer be required to create a separate ILLIAD username and password. You will not be able to make an ILL request Wednesday so please plan accordingly.

How will I access my ILLiad account?

After August 4th, follow the new login button to USF WebAuth and sign in with your existing NetID and password.

What about my old ILLiad username?

During the implementation, your old ILLiad user account will be merged into an account under your NetID. You will no longer log in with your old ILLiad account information.

What will happen to my current ILL/PRONTO requests?

All of your old and active requests should be migrated and available to you when you log in with your NetID. If they do not show up please contact your ILL office for assistance, at (863) 667-7817.

What if I don’t have a NetID?

Some library patrons will not have a Net ID. If you do not have a NetID and you already had an ILLiad account, your login information will continue to work. If you need to register for an ILLiad login you can start here.
